These hand made gold earrings are of the attractive small harbour town of Tarbert which sits at the northern end of the Kintyre peninsula
and makes a gloriously attractive entrance to Kintyre. Grant has lovingly reproduced some of the well known features of Tarbert to create a
pair of designer gold earrings to treasure.
Clearly King Magnus Barefoot thought similarly as he remained at the helm of his skiff whilst it was dragged across the narrow isthmus
between Tarbert's East and West Lochs.
King Malcolm of Scotland had promised him all the islands off of the west coast of Scotland separated by water and navigable by ship as a
settlement. By navigating Kintyre thus he was entitled to claim valuable Kintyre.
A similar feat was undertaken by Robert the Bruce in the 1400's, and likely by others to save them the long and dangerous voyage around the
Mull of Kintyre.
Little wonder that Kintyre is referred to as Scotland's mainland island!
